Lightning Pictures - taken by Steven Hughes

These pictures are from the storms a while ago, but I thought I would share them with you anyway. I was reminded of my husband’s sense of adventure 2 days ago when he woke me up at 2am to let me know he was going to photograph the thunderstorm. Don’t get me wrong - I love thunderstorms! In fact, that’s one of the main things I miss about Zimbabwe. There is nothing quite like an African thunderstorm. The smell of the rain on the dry ground, the green, green grass that pokes through the ground the following day, the frogs that come out to play and the flying ants that take over the gray sky. Nothing like it! However, things are a little bit different in adulthood. I appreciate and understand the dangers of lightning a little bit more than in my naïve youth. So, when my husband is running outside in the rain, with his NICE camera, metal tripod…dodging lightning bolts, it causes a mild heart attack and a not so pleasant sleep. However, he did get some amazing shots. And I guess it is about compromises, isn’t it? It could be worse. He could be bungee jumping off the cable car on Table Mountain. Yip, that’s right folks, that one got vetoed. Using the line “you should have done that BEFORE we got married” works like a charm.

Man! That photographer is really talented! Is running out in the middle of the night to take photos of deadly lighting not normal?
