Birthday Bash!

My birthday weekend bash was a blast! Steve is pretty amazing at his surprises! In fact, surprises like that have been described as: “Typical Steve.” We ended up leaving around 8:30am and headed on our merry little way, all the while, I was trying to guess where we were going. Luckily for Steve, the surprise lasted a lot longer as I have NO sense of direction and had absolutely no idea where we were headed! This amused Steve considerably as I would guess a city and he’d just start laughing, as it was apparently in a completely different direction. It was pretty much when we drove under the freeway sign saying “LAS VEGAS” that I put two and two together! Ha! I was so excited! I had only been once with girlfriends and that was a few years ago! I was so excited to finally go there with my husband! We arrived at about 12:30 and grabbed some Starbucks! I was going to need all the caffeine I could get! We checked in and set off on our merry little way! The most fun thing to do there is to walk around the hotels! They are just so magnificent and like their own little cities. It’s just amazing to see all the artwork: the murals, the flower arrangements, the woodcarvings, the wall paintings, the sculptures and floor tile work. To think someone created/designed/made that all is just phenomenal! The other fun part is to people watch. That is just PURE comedy! We don’t gamble but Steve wanted me to try a slot machine to see what it was like. So, I inserted the ONE DOLLAR BILL and proceeded to pull the leaver. When I let it go, the little pictures spun all around and then stopped. And then nothing…I looked at Steve and said “Seriously?” “That’s it?” I couldn’t believe that people actually wasted their time and money away on that silly little machine! I can understand playing the poker etc, that takes some skill and some very smart playing! As long as you know when to stop! Anyway, we had so much fun! I think we caught the Bellagio Fountain Show at least 4 times! There is just something so pure, so beautiful and so refreshing about watching that. I think especially in a city that can be so dirty and so draining, it comes as a welcome relief! We enjoyed watching the handsome tiger at the Mirage go for a swim, we enjoyed eating famous New York Pretzels at New York, New York, we enjoyed the delicious gelato ice-cream at the Venetian, and enjoyed chicken flautas, chicken burritos, Mojito’s and chips & salsa at Isla in Treasure Island for dinner. We got to bed late after seeing Cirque du Soleil, but managed to wake up in time to eat the breakfast buffet! And what a breakfast that was! I’m pretty sure that was the best coffee I’ve had, as well as the best egg white, fresh mushroom & tomato omelet! We enjoyed some Danish pasties, as well as fresh fruit, mango yogurt, fresh squeezed orange juice and a little dessert! Yes, I know, I had dessert at 9:30 in the morning, so what? I take after my dad! I have his sweet tooth! Let me rephrase that, I have his sweet TEETH! I would have had the ice cream too, but I was so full I couldn’t eat any more! Steve enjoyed some waffles, pancakes, sausages and eggs and also some fruit and pastries. The serving sizes are tiny so this sounds like an awful amount of food, which it was, but not as much as it seems! Anyway, after breakfast we caught one more showing of the Famous Fountains at the Bellagio and this time it was “Time to Say Goodbye,” performed by Sarah Brighton and Andrea Bocelli! It was very fitting! We said our good-byes to the city and headed on our very slow way home! It took us 6 ½ hours to get home; instead of the 4 it took getting there! We had a GREAT, AMAZING time, loved every minute of it, but we both agreed, next time we fly!!
